The International Union of Architects’ “Science & High-Tech Facilities Work Programme” has scheduled the 2004 annual session for Macao, China on Friday, December 3 and Saturday 4. Macao venue highlights the first Western city in China and for centuries was a gateway and a place where East meets West. Since December 20, 1999 is a Special Administrative Region of the Republic of China under the principle “One Country Two Systems”. Macao is pioneer in many fields. Was the city in the Asia-Pacific that had the first western University, first western style medicine Hospital, Insurance, etc. Is also a place of cultural mixing and tolerance, apparent in the styles of different buildings. Located in the delta of the Pearl River formed by the cities of Macao, Hong Kong and Guangdong, this region witness one of the fasted growing economy in the world. This is reflected in the fast development of industries linked with modern technology and supported by Science and research. Macao Business center, old and new developments share a dense urban space
The theme of the 2004 annual session is:
Science and Hi-Tech Facilities contribution for regional environment.
The program will begin on Friday, December 3 at the Auditorium of University of Macao, a modern and very dynamic regional institution open to the international community of students. On December 4, will be held a session on Zuhai University campus, located a few kilometers from Macao. The session at the Zuhai University Campus will include a tour to the Southern Software Park (SSP) that covers 340,000 sqm of land. SSP and its surrounding scientific enterprises constitute Zuhai Science and Technology Innovation Cost, one of the major parts of the Zuhai National Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone. SSP was granted the status of State Software Industry Base in 2001. Accommodations for the 2004 Work Programme annual session have been selected at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, very near The University of Macao and 10 minutes from Macao International Airport. The Hotel is considered, both by Asian and Westerners as one of best facilities in the region, with river and hill side views. There is no limitation with regard to number of participants.
