St. Francis Church Square, Coloane

The church was build in 1928 and was a regular tourist spot and pilgrimage site for Japanese and Catholics (that came to visit the relics of the Japanese, Vietnamese and Korean, martyrs of the 16th and 17th centuries).

This church is also the ``memory'' of Macao influence of the Christianization and humanization of Japan (in the 1590s there were more than 300,000 Catholics in Japan.

The intervention in the square was extremely simple; a construction of a double arcade, that created an classic ambiance, to became a clustered urban image of the old colonial style of Macao.

After the construction of the arcade, local business and commerce improved due to the increase on the number of tourist visitors, making this space economically sustainable.
